Alister Square Inn in Port Aransas, Texas

Alister Square Inn

Alister Square Inn, 122 S. Alister Street, places you right in the heart of the historic fishing village, and now popular beach resort, Port Aransas, TX. With the hustle and bustle of the popular vacation spot, it may be difficult to imagine that it was once the roaming grounds for a tribe of Karankawa Indians which eventually evolved into a remote camp town populated with fishermen paving the way for themselves and others to enjoy bounty of the sea.

Alister Square Inn welcomes the Port Aransas visitor with its lush subtropical landscaping, attractive pastel colored structure and pleasant, affordable rooms. Located only 1 mile from the beautiful Gulf of Mexico with its inviting water and outstanding beaches, rooms at the Inn are visually appealing and include two queen size beds, microwaves, refrigerator, cable television and wireless internet. Kitchenettes are also available.

Other amenities include a complimentary continental breakfast, a heated pool in the winter, and a “pets are welcome” (with an additional fee) atmosphere. It is a comfortable, pleasant space for guests on business trips, fishing adventures or family vacations. Meeting and banquet facilities are available for business meetings, workshops, family gatherings, etc.

The  Alister Square Inn is very proud to promote their outstanding staff. As one little girl observed when she first entered her room, “The refrigerator smells really good!”

When I asked the manager on duty why she would say that, she explained, “It’s our fantastic staff! It's the cleaner they used. They work hard to provide the cleanest rooms possible!”

Once you are unpacked and settled into Alister Square Inn, it's time to decide what to explore first. Maybe it's time to check out the water and the beach, find a place to eat, check out the gift shops or a perfect spot for a refreshing beverage.

A visit to Port Aransas and Mustang Island is an adventure worth having. Local lore is rich with tales of pirates including the famous Jean Lafitte, “Prince of Pirates”, who was said to have left buried treasure behind when he abandoned his camps on Mustang Island! Local businesses play on the romantic tales of pirates of old with themed restaurants, trips to night spots aboard an “abandoned pirate ship” pulled on a trailer and the reenactment of a pirate ambush while out on a dolphin watch.

Much to the delight of the children aboard the dolphin boat (and the adults!) the dolphin/pirate escapade ends with the discovery of buried treasure and yes…usually ample dolphin sightings! And Alister Square places you within walking distance of most of these adventures.

Whether you come to Port Aransas to delve into local culture, wear yourself out at the beach, explore the natural habitats of birds and other creatures, or take advantage of museums, music, art and more there are plenty of activities to choose from in the area.

You can get to Port A and Mustang Island from Corpus Christi by traveling down SPID (South Padre Island Drive) or through Aransas Pass via the Port Aransas Ferry System. The ferry ride, even though very quick, is a unique and fun adventure that should be experienced at least once. And, it is free! However, you should plan your trip to avoid peak times unless you don’t mind the possibility of a wait.

The Alister Square Inn can be your starting point for an affordable Coastal Bend adventure that can be relaxing, invigorating, educational, and just plain fun!
