People who choose Port "A" as their destination don't have to worry about using their personal vehicle or calling an expensive cab to get around while on the island, or to Corpus Christi. Instead, Port Aransas transit options exist. It all depends on what visitors want to do. The options offered can take people around town, out of town or take the travelers and their cars completely off the island to the mainland.

Take A Trolley

For a just a few dollars or even as little as a quarter, anyone can jump on the #94 trolley and get to their Port "A" destination. Whether a visitor's destination is beach side, the town shops, a restaurant at the wharf, or a local watering hole, the trolley can help each passenger arrive at their destination. The trolley is easy to spot and will stop anywhere along its route. It's big, it's red and it stops with a wave from an eager passenger. Children who are 5 or under ride free with an accompanying adult. Students who are 6 or older (with a valid i.d.), senior citizens and individuals with disabilities receive a discount on fares. Service runs seven days per week, starting at 10 a.m. and ending right before 6 p.m. Call the Port "A" Chamber of Commerce at 361-749-4111 for the trolley's exact schedule. Fares will vary according to each traveler's destination and classification.


Another type of Port Aransas transit is the Flexi-B, a small bus that departs twice daily Monday-Friday. The first departure is bright and early at 7:30 a.m., and destinations include Del Mar College and each rider's personal appointments. Travelers can schedule a ride by calling 361-289-2600 one to seven days in advance of their trip. The second departure of the Flexi-B is at 10:00 a.m., and the destination is La Palmera Mall in Corpus Christi. The Flexi-B begins its return trip to Port "A" at 3:30 p.m. the same day. On Fridays and Saturdays, the 10:00 a.m. Flexi-B will take riders to other destinations in Corpus Christi such as the Texas State Aquarium, The U.S.S. The ferry runs 24 hours per day, seven days per week. There are seven ferries available each day for transport and each one can accommodate 20 to 28 passenger cars and their owners. The ferry connects Port Aransas with the mainland by way of Harbor Island and Aransas Pass. Some people get out of their cars on the quarter-mile trip across the ship channel and hope for sightings of dolphins. Often, they are able to see the marine mammals frolicking nearby. This Port Aransas transit service is free. Travelers should be prepared for anywhere from a 15 minute or more wait depending on the amount of ferry passengers.
